A fresh start

A fresh start is important now and again.  This past year has brought both joy and sadness to my family. Last October, we welcomed another healthy baby girl, Eliza Grace. She has joined Annika in keeping us on our toes.  But we sadly lost my mother to pancreatic cancer and my younger cousin Jeff Hoyt to early onset Alzheimers.

After the difficult spring we packed up and spent the summer in Jackson, Wyoming.  The girls enjoyed all the parks and activities Jackson had to offer and I spent the summer getting up early and guiding the Grand Teton and other peaks.  The change of pace was therapeutic.  Now we are home and settling into our New Hampshire routine, Annika goes to the Waldorf school three days a week and Claire juggles Eliza, exercise and keeping the family (including me) on track.  I have been working on giving my website a new face and preparing for an expedition to Nepal along with guiding and a little carpentry work.

I hope you find the new look to the website easy to navigate and informative.  I have changed the address to www.newhampshireiceclimbing.com because I want you to think of Mahoney Alpine Adventures when you think of ice climbing in New Hampshire.

I leave in just a few days, Oct. 4th, to head out to Katmandu to meet up with Ben Gilmore and Freddie Wilkinson.  Our objective is the North face of Kangtega 6779 meters.  The line we would like to climb is a brilliant mixed alpine route with roughly 4,000 feet of relief to 22,241ft.

I will be in Nepal until Thanksgiving Day.  The last twelve days of the trip will be spent with Claire trekking and enjoying our first vacation alone together in five years. As much as we love our girls, we’re both psyched to travel alone. Their time will come.

Please feel free to contact Mahoney Alpine Adventures with inquiries about the upcoming ice season and feel free to request dates to book.  I’ll be in touch. Looking forward to a great climbing season.
